Riding holiday in Portugal
Join us for longer or shorter rides in the beautiful Peneda-Gêres National Park in the north of Portugal. We ride in groups of one to six riders on surefooted lusitano and lusitano-cross horses.
Riding with Pedro and Mariana in the national park on the border to Spain is ideal for those who love nature and the environment. We ride in the mountains, exploring the territory of the Iberian Wolf and Garrano Horse both living wild here. This is a beautiful part of Portugal and your hosts are extremely knowledgeable about the region and the habitats of the wildlife as they have been studying them for a long time. Besides observing the wild horses, the chances of spotting various birds and butterflies, Roe Deer or Red Deer, birds of prey, lizzards and frogs, are high.
You will ride a horse of either the Lusitano/Lusitano-cross or Garrano breed. Out of the saddle there is the opportunity for dips in the natural pools of the Laboreiro river and there are ancient paths of great beauty and ecological value that will lead you to discover the little treasures of the Peneda mountains.
The itineraries aims to give you lovely days of riding combined with excursions to the local visitors highlights. You will be accomodated in an atmospheric guesthouse in a village close to the stable. At the meals you will be introduced to a homecooked portuguese cuisine as well as local wines. The daily plan can be adapted in accordance with weather or other local conditions.
Pedro and Mariana enjoy to host and ride with smaller groups of riders: “During the week our guests share experiences and good times around the dinner table. They meet as a group of horsemen and women, and often they say goodbye as a group of friends.”.
